Trying to deal with a wasp nest, that is inside a wall, without cutting a hole in said wall. I doubt we will be successful, but I really don't have the extra moolah for an exterminator. Frickin stupid wasps. Ya got a forest full of trees and stumps and shit, stay outta my house!
(100% sure they are wasps and not bees)
@AlphaCentauri Oh, that's good to know. They probably are yellow jackets....
@Evereigh Do you have access to a source of dry ice?
@aspecurian Uhmmm....I'd have to think about it and ask around, but possibly?
@Evereigh @aspecurian A CO2 fire extinguisher may do the trick, but requires you to poke a hole or two in your sheetrock, that the space is airtight, and that you have adequate ventilation for yourself, plus some finagling to rig a hose up to direct the gas into the wall.
@POOetryma @aspecurian The space is definitely not air tight. They are going in, through an exterior wall, under an eve. We have been blocking any access points, as we see them going in/out......You can HEAR them trying to escape, if you stand outside. It's right above our back door, so a very inconvenient place to constantly have wasps buzzing around.
@Evereigh @aspecurian Then your best option is probably to trap and kill them, as demonstrated in the video.
@POOetryma @Evereigh Shop Vac 😁
@aspecurian @POOetryma Noooot the worst suggestion......! Lolol
@Evereigh @POOetryma I have seen people use them for this purpose.
Pretty sure they put soapy water in the bottom- and wind up with a bunch of drowned wasps.
@aspecurian @Evereigh Yep, that works, too. Excellent suggestion! 🙂👍
@Evereigh I don't imagine you want to spray a bunch of soapy water in your walls.
You may want to just get some wasp spray and stick it in whatever entrance you can find. Might work, might not.
@aspecurian We've unloaded 3 cans of "Bee Bopper" into it already, with no success. So, all holes are getting blocked and I'm crossing my fingers they die over winter. If not...Guess I'll have to pony up and pay an exterminator. Blarf.
@Evereigh Yeah, plugging the holes is a good idea.
@Evereigh Localize the nest. Drill a small hole a foot or so from the top, assuming it doesn't go to the top, and spray insecticide with a small nozzle or hose, if possible. Downside: fumes and toxic chemicals.
Alternative solution: Again, drill a small hole in the sheetrock and pump in CO2. Be sure to seal all cracks so 1) the wasps can't leave and 2) so the gas will remain in place long enough to suffocate them. Be especially sure you, yourself, have adequate ventilation.
...
@POOetryma Thank you for the tips!
@Evereigh You're more than welcome. 😊
@Evereigh Other alternative solution:
See Shawn Woods' YouTube channel, where he posts videos about pest control around his farm, among other things. Use a hunk of meat to bait the wasps and a dish of soapy water.
Here's one, made from materials you have around the house or can easily get at a grocery store or gas station.

And here's another, equally simple trap that you can make from stuff in your kitchen.

Make sure to kill the queen.
@Evereigh
If they are yellow jackets, they die in winter. Just leave them alone. Spray in insecticide and close the openings during winter.
