July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year at animal shelters around America. Terrified dogs who bolt as fireworks go off or escape as owners are busy partying are brought in, scanned for microchips, and in the best case, reunited with grateful owners. Others, like my Shadow, languished for weeks before being adopted. PLEASE ensure that your dog has a collar with a rabies tag and ID and/or a microchip, and that the chip database is updated. Check shelters if your dog escapes.

@cassandra17lina what a beautiful dog. So sad so many never get adopted.

@DCliffo Indeed… he was an excellent dog, full grown when we got him, and he lived another 17.5 years.

@cassandra17lina My hubs and I have 2 Mauxies. When they pass we say we'll adopt 2 senior dogs. Because we're seniors and puppies would be too much.
