Some stuff Dems need to permanently fix if ever in power again:

1) Electoral College
2) Gerrymandering
3) SCOTUS rules
4) Citizens United
5) Fairness Doctrine
6)
7)
8)

@Cynicholic

Some can be done Legislatively, but only way will be an all Blue Congress - House & Senate with a super-majority in the Senate of >60 to negate Filibusters.

Others would need Constitutional Amendments, not an easy task, but one that can happen - Has the ERA been passed yet?

@Cynicholic

Let’s put Separation Between Church & State as written in the Constitution right near the top of the list!

@QueenOfEverything @Cynicholic

“Separation Between Chirch & State” isn’t in the Constitution.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

So where do people get the “separation of church and state”? From Jefferson’s writings. The actual concept was NOT that religion would infiltrate government but that government would corrupt religion (yeah, funny, eh?)

Given how today’s SCOTUS seems to find REAL history repugnant…

@feloneouscat @Cynicholic

You're right... I got sucked into the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment with the Lemon v. Kurtzman (1971), the Court established a three-pronged test for laws dealing with religious establishment. College freshmen ready to set the world on fire with the total separation of church & state.

Imagine my surprise when my professor told me it wasn't set in stone.

Now a few (hundred) years later... I want this written in our laws. Can't trust anymore

@Cynicholic

also, want to address the EPA changes & give them back regulatory powers.

entrench women's rights to their own fucking bodies.

universal health care. they could make it happen if they had both houses & had the will to do it.

@Cynicholic
“if ever in power again”
so scary that we have all internalized this potential for a catastrophic end to democracy as we know it 🙁

@Cynicholic

1) Constitutional Amendment
2) Would require a Civil Rights law sequel
3) Good luck with that
4) Congressional action as long as SCOTUS doesn’t kill it
5) This was a ruling that could be reinstated by the FCC.

Anything in the Constitution requires an amendment.

Rulings by SCOTUS are trickier to override (it gets complicated).

Rulings by departments can be unruled by next admin (IIRC).
