America's Life Expectancy Crisis
"Forty years ago, small towns and rural regions were healthier for adults in the prime of life. The reverse is now true. Urban death rates have declined sharply, while rates outside the country’s largest metro areas flattened and then rose."
I suppose this is a crisis if we are trying to save red areas who are science and medicine averse. Big if for me. 🤷
@Cosmichomicide that's true, but a lot of rural hospitals have closed recently, and it has to have a lot to do with death rates and longevity.
Yes, but that's primarily in states that didn't elect to expand Medicaid. Again, red states.
@Cosmichomicide very true. I've been a small blue dot in a sea of red for most of my life. Stupidity kills, but not fast enough.
It's been a trend in the red rural areas of NC where I grew up as well. I know people who literally sell homes and move closer to hospitals if they are going to require extended treatment. Still vote red.
It's appalling, but it is self-inflicted. 🙁
@Cosmichomicide Also, vote the bastards out of office that promise to take care of the country and take care of their rich donors instead.
"In the early 1980s, people in the poorest communities were 9 percent more likely to die each year, but the gap grew to 49 percent in the past decade and widened to 61 percent when covid struck."
Get a booster, wear a mask, stay home if you are sick.
