I’m just curious. What is the most depressing book you’ve ever read? For me, it was A Fine Balance. When I thought things couldn’t get worse, they did. Not sorry I read it though. I still think about it from time to time.

It was an Oprah Book Club pick in 2001 I think. That’s what prompted me to read it.

@Novels56 I'll agree with @Coffee_and_Salt . Grapes of Wrath was dark throughout and had a very dark ending. I don't know if it's the most depressing, but it's an answer

It’s a master work in making someone feel what the characters are feeling. Just so… tired.
