@sfleetucker @ChippySuave it's not reasoning skills. It's fear. Fear that comes from being rejected by the group, fear that you've been cheated all along, fear of the pain of cognitive dissonance. It's fear and a belief that you're the hero in the story.

No matter how rational the argument, they refuse to hear.
I too have MAGA relatives. The distance between us is only reduced by discussions of weather, pets, kids and other banal topics.

@ChippySuave There are many kinds of intelligence. Clearly his reasoning skills are broken. He must have a bad deficit in perceiving and understanding empathy/pain and other human emotions.
