I normally prefer to watch the #Oscars not having actually seen any of the nominated movies. I failed at that in '23, so my opinions in some cases are based on the actual productions rather than the standalone spectacle. ☹️
That having been said, Greta Gerwig and America Ferrera should be given *all* the awards for this:
"It's impossible to be a woman"
Interesting! I saw it another way - that we are expected to want everyone to like us. And while being content with people not liking us is mentally and emotionally healthy, it comes at a price.
Whether or not I meet others' expectations (more often not), after more years of those expectations
than I even care to be specific about, sometimes it's too much just being expected to fill that role

It's natural to want to live for our kids, right? And we are taught to live for many other people, which is why we're supposed to want everyone to like us. And these skills can sometimes come in handy.
But we can live for ourselves, too, and that means sometimes people are just not going to like us for dumbass reasons of their own, and we can cheerfully go about our business without that bothering us.
Sometimes I think if I ever again hear the words "Why aren't you...?" I seriously might get stabby.
@BrazenlyLiberal
I hear you! 😂 Sorry. People always think they have the right to tell us how to look and behave and what to do. For mind blowingly stoopid reasons, more often than not.
@BrazenlyLiberal
I know it can be a lot of pressure, believe me. I've reached the point where I'm a little cranky about people and their expectations. They can expect what they want from me, that does not mean they are going to get it. Especially if it is literally impossible, ridiculous, or if I never agreed to it.
