My initial thought was, why would someone name a town after a tropical island. I saw it was formed in 1817, with no explanation as to why that name was selected. Do you know why?

The spring is located near the spillway end of Cuba Lake on the Oil Spring Indian Reservation. This is the site of the famed spring described by the Franciscan Missionary Joseph DeLa Roch D'Allion in 1627, the first recorded mention of oil on the North American Continent.

@duglop well, i already took a peek at the local inns, so if Im on US soil next summer, then it I will be looking to escape the heat. it looks perfect for a weekend getaway.

@Bliss um, no I make it a habit of making up places on Sunday nights - it's a great hobby lol - yes it's a place - Cuba Lake is 1 of the largest manmade lakes in USA...
