Most vaccine research is done in academic labs, because drug companies mostly will not fund fast R&D due to the lack of money to be made.
Plus, there was a lot of research done on a SARS vaccine a few years ago, (SARS similar to Covid-19) but that never made it to clinical trials because no drug companies would step up. Professor Peter Hotez has been explaining this for the past few weeks to anybody who will listen.
Also, the anti-vax brigade are flapping their gums as usual about "safety".
