If you have not not figured it out [it is the same pattern, over and over], the GOP demands giant cuts when the Dems are in power. Then, the public blames the Dems for the cuts.

@Bix Never forget to tell people this, because it's true: PRESIDENTS DON'T LEGISLATE. Congress does. Any govt. shutdown is the fault of the Congress, not the President.
Obama never cut food stamps. The Republican Congress did.
@Bix And in this case, it will be the fault of the House of Representatives (GOP-controlled) and the Speaker, for not doing the people's work and keeping the govt. open and running.
@Bix I disagree with part of this. The public is not stupid. (Well, most of it is not!) They know what's going on and they generally blame the party that caused the shutdown. Which is always the GOP. I give you this, from a very obtuse GOP congressman:

I don't think this will pass. There's GOP reps who can't afford politically to get on board with it.
Unless they're just poison pilling it knowing the Senate absolutely won't pass it, but they want to be able to look like they did something and it's the Senate's fault?
