This really depresses me, as I told my manager over a month ago that my goal for this job was to advance enough so I could save to move in a year.
The next two weeks, I'm only scheduled for 14 hours FFS!
After being at 35-40+ for 4 months, this is a real kick in the teeth.
Makes me feel like my boss really wants me to quit, but doesn't want to fire me.
Pisses me off is what it does.
I think I need to just get smashed. Red, red wine... 🎶
I’ve always been one to question authority, and the way things are done, because I believe that no one should live above another as far as authority is concerned & that no one person or group of people has ALL the answers to everything.
Equality is THAT important to me.
I've had a taste of $500-800 per week only to be reduced to $200-250 per week for the foreseeable future with no chance to advance & told I should be happy about it.
Looking for someone willing to pay me what I'm worth who doesn't want to lord over me like I'm their lackey.
If ANYONE on here wants to hire a woman who thinks for herself, questions authority & the way things are done, can work without supervision who prefers not being spied on, & who doesn't take herself seriously but does take her work seriously, then hire me! Thanks so much!

@Astartiel hang in there. That’s fucked up shit, but if they treat people like that, they won’t be able to keep them.
@Gambit_1 Thanks. I'm trying to. Dollar General had a notorious turnover rate & I'm starting to understand why.
@Astartiel Sounds almost vindictive. Not knowledgeable about employment/contract law your side of the puddle, but that sort of shit wouldn't stick over here that's for sure - unless it's on a zero hr contract which pays peanuts and gives the bastards too much power over employees lives.
@Clavius_42 I wish I had any recourse or power over my employment like that, but for all our shouts of freedom, American businesses follow a very autocratic ruler/serf format that's always sickened me.
@Astartiel It's nuts they can take something like you having plans in life as a personal slight.
@JLong And yet it feels like that is very much a part of things. Makes me not want to share such personal goals with employers in the future, because you never know when/how they'll use it against you. Feels like I'm being kept down so I'm stuck here, unable to get ahead or save enough money to ever leave.
@Astartiel I hear you. I've worked for people who cut hours like that when they want you to quit and it's as cowardly as it gets. Hang in there, you'll find a good one soon.
@JLong Yeah, I considered that myself & also thought it's a cowardly way of going about things. I'm going to try to stick it out till I find something better because $200/week is better than nothing, but it does suck to be treated this way. And it's all mostly because I'm not timely enough for this manager. And I told her from the start that Time & I don't get along & I've always had no sense of time.
@Astartiel Definitely sounds like they're trying to force you out in a way that avoids any possible claim for wrongful dismissal.A really shitty way for them to go about things.
@FrankCannon Yeah, that's been my thought as well. And if they do fire me instead, it will be over my problem with timeliness, which I told my manager was a problem with me from the get go. "No good deed goes unpunished," I guess.
@Astartiel Hopefully something else will come up and you can just get out of there.Nothing as bad for mental health as being stuck in a job like that.
@FrankCannon What's funny is I don't mind the actual work part much at all. It's just the people who are ruining things. Thanks!
@Astartiel That's always the case, poor employers will always take advantage of good employees.
@Astartiel same issue in the UK too. I've just not got a higher grade job at my workplace (not my choice to apply, - my post is being deleted as a result of organisational change) and have been told it's because I'm "not strategic enough" which I think translates as "you're a bit difficult 'cos you like to challenge and question and you stick up for people over process". It sucks. Maybe we should form a cross Atlantic alliance of interesting techie women who won't play corporate bullshit?
@Zailrand I like that idea! Kinda like STEAM for us older techie women who never got to benefit from such programs (as they didn't exist) or an international union for women like us!
@Astartiel Yes! That sort of thing :) Lots of stuff out there for young techie women (which is great) but not so much for us older ones...
@Astartiel (just connected on LinkedIn btw :))
The problem with positions of authority is it promotes authoritarian thinking towards those below you.
Our problem in the USA is we live in a democratic republic, but most businesses that we work under are autocratic dictatorships. So we are already mentally conditioned to accept those kind of rulerships, at least when it comes to business. And some when it comes to politics too.
