My boss took me from 35-40+ hours to less than 20 in the last two weeks, taking my income to less than half what I was earning, after enough employees were finally hired. Something tells me I'm not getting the assistant manager job I applied for. Now I'm going to need to get on EBT, Medicaid, Energy Assist. again, so I don't spend all my income without any way to save.
This really depresses me, as I told my manager over a month ago that my goal for this job was to advance enough so I could save to move in a year.
The next two weeks, I'm only scheduled for 14 hours FFS!
After being at 35-40+ for 4 months, this is a real kick in the teeth.
Makes me feel like my boss really wants me to quit, but doesn't want to fire me.
Pisses me off is what it does.
I think I need to just get smashed. Red, red wine... 🎶
The problem with positions of authority is it promotes authoritarian thinking towards those below you.
Our problem in the USA is we live in a democratic republic, but most businesses that we work under are autocratic dictatorships. So we are already mentally conditioned to accept those kind of rulerships, at least when it comes to business. And some when it comes to politics too.
@JLong And yet it feels like that is very much a part of things. Makes me not want to share such personal goals with employers in the future, because you never know when/how they'll use it against you. Feels like I'm being kept down so I'm stuck here, unable to get ahead or save enough money to ever leave.
@JLong Yeah, I considered that myself & also thought it's a cowardly way of going about things. I'm going to try to stick it out till I find something better because $200/week is better than nothing, but it does suck to be treated this way. And it's all mostly because I'm not timely enough for this manager. And I told her from the start that Time & I don't get along & I've always had no sense of time.
@Astartiel I hear you. I've worked for people who cut hours like that when they want you to quit and it's as cowardly as it gets. Hang in there, you'll find a good one soon.
