We claim that we are tired of minority rule, and yet we leap at the opportunity to divide ourselves into ever smaller factions that are easily outmatched by well-funded political zealots.

Today I had to explain to a younger coworker that the white pages in the back of a book of checks were deposit slips, and that you could actually mail a money order to your credit union to deposit it if you didn't have time to take it in person.

Unfortunately, she doesn't remember where her check book is, as she doesn't know how to write checks and has never used one.

Just as well. She doesn't have a lot of experience addressing and stamping envelopes, either.

Am I still too Catholic if I was originally pissed that the today was a Greek word?

Happy birthday @th3j35t3r
Hope you can celebrate by not worrying about us for a day.

For those annoyed by the July 4 fireworks, blame John Adams, who one of the ones pushing for it to be an annual holiday:

"It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

I figured out how to give a dog a pill. Drop it on the ground and yell NO!!! while pointing at it then try and take it away.

Heads up, people. "It's the economy, stupid."

As is apparent from the number of parents who won't allow their sons and daughters to get HPV vaccine, there is a high percentage of people who
1. don't think they're personally at risk for unwanted pregnancy
2. think they can prevent their children from having premarital sex, no matter what they, their parents, may have done.

Anger over abortion is not a big issue for many people until they need one themselves.

Consider these two statements:

1. "Republicans are fascists that are turning America into Gilead!"

2. "Women should have the ability to make decisions about their own futures."

Which one of those nets a more productive conversation? If you were right-of-center and read the first, would you say anything at all?

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.” ― G.K. Chesterton

Laws can be changed. The constitution can be amended.
Hearts can be softened.
This can be done with hard work, lots of bi-directional communication, and convincing.

What won't work is all-caps social media posts. What won't work is belittling those who don't yet understand. If you don't have the tools to get somebody to understand, be gentle and step aside, call in those with the tools.

WTAF?

What are people's guesses?

I'm thinking a high concentration of sewer gas (hydrogen sulfide) -- one sniff and your nose stops smelling it, rapid knock-down and death within a few breaths before anyone realizes they need to get out. Maybe it was accumulating on an upper level and flowed down into the club area?

I am especially thankful for hot showers.

My hot shower required the effort of hundreds of people that I will never meet. Utility workers. Plumbers. Electricians. Their bosses. The people that work for them. A body of individual productivity that results in keeping mine clean.
