Just witnessed act of human kindness. Man was having a seizure on a corner downtown. Strangers rushed to him- someone called 911. Other person rolled him onto his side and was comforting him. This person was obviously one of our homeless but it didn't matter. Today, I saw a display of human compassion that I hadn't seen in a long time. There is hope for us yet.

Normally around here everything's dead or dormant, but it's been so mild for so long that some of my outdoor plants still have their fall blossoms.

#COVID is coming back, and we’re also facing #RSV and #flu surges this winter. Mr. Carolina (who is immune compromised) and I have had our vaccines and boosters for everything, but many of our neighbors seem to think that the danger has passed. They may be “done” with COVID, but it’s not done with them. Be smart. Don’t lose a battle of wits with a one-celled organism! Get vaccinated!

Perspicuity
Dances gently
From strong
Hands rough
With working
Scars
Badges earned
As another piece
Speaks before
Lathe turns
It’s a different
Type of reading
Seeing poetry
In grain
A woodworkers
Gift born
Of sweat and dust.

PSA: If you have an indoor wood stove, pellet, etc., do not forget to sweep your chimney. If your fire gets smokey inside your house, put it out, it’s not getting drafted up and something is wrong.

Today's walk in the woods was slidy-muddy, wet and drippy, with flocks of fieldfare and redwing and gold finches dancing around us.
