Buying music financially supports artists literally orders of magnitude more than streaming does.
A guy assumed bands make 12 cents per stream. We corrected him; it takes about 1000 streams for a band to earn one dollar on Spotify. That's a tenth of a penny per stream. Making 12 cents takes 120 plays.
Assuming a 3 minute song, that's 50 hours of play for a dollar.
Something needs to change. Music streaming is almost as exploitative and parasitic as academic publishing.
