I just finished watching 'Echo' on Disney. I thought it was great, far better than most of the other recent MCU series or movies. But only five episodes? This is an example of one of the issues that led to the WGA strike.
Those five episodes were pretty solid, though. The only sour note was using the song Down to the River to Pray. Did they think people would forget it's about Christian baptism, and from a region of the US very far geographically and culturally from where the show takes place?
@voltronic Just finished watching the series and remembered this post. It is an interesting choice. While looking up the history of the song a couple interesting bits came up. It is earliest attributed to a collection of slave songs from 1867 but some sources say it was believed to be a Native American song modified with Christian lyrics. The only tribal attribution was a vague reference to the Hupa nation of northern California. Also an 1880 book about the Fisk Jubilee Singers, interestingly.
^ FTR, I didn't give a spoiler warning because the song is such a poor fit for what's happening on screen that I'm not giving anything away by talking about it.
