: Non-Hispanic Whites make up 59% (~197.5mn) of the US population. Blacks/African-Americans make up 12% (~44mn) of the population.
Roughly 27% (~53m) of those Whites are on welfare. Roughly 37% (~16mn) of those Blacks/African-Americans are on welfare.
There are (~9mn) more Non-Hispanic Whites on welfare than the entire population of Blacks/African-Americans in the US.
Non-whites on welfare are not a drain on the economy, folks. That's just a stereotype that needs correcting.

@thedisasterautist I’m so glad I don’t live in a part of the country where I have to listen to these types gripe about this. I’ve been around enough of it to know snd I don’t miss it. It’s a big reason, I stick up for the native side of my family even though I pass. Too many times I’d get into arguments with people who didn’t know I was mixed until I said something. At least I can bring attention to it and I’m glad others do, too.
@thedisasterautist I saw a clip from Sarah Silverman's "I Love America" where she interviews a white family in deep rural LA. They discuss positions on key topics.
They go on a rant about the Obama government handouts being un-American. Then we learn all are on Medicaid or benefit from another ACA program. Logical inconsistency is astounding.
They "need" the help, even deserve it. Yet others don't somehow. Maybe they need it too?

I had an unfortunate conversation with a neighbor recently, who believes Black people are basically welfare queens, a la Ronald Reagan's BS in the 80s. I wish I had known these numbers to share with her. I did not.
She's an immigrant from Russia and is married to an Ethiopian man, and still holds these beliefs. I was disturbed and did not know what to say. Her own children may be harmed by racism.
