@NiveusLepus I finally found this post. I appreciate your journey. I have struggled with the narrowness of a lot of my #Christian friends. And I've struggled with my own self. So I can relate to all of this. People who say questioning is bad don't understand what questioning is for/about.
Glad you're here on CoSo.
@poemblaze @NiveusLepus Those people have also never really read the Psalms which include a lot of questions posed to God.
There is a famous bible verse I'm reminded of. Mark 9:24. Lord I believe, help me with my unbelief.
Questioning is part of any faith as Frederick Douglas said, without struggle there can be no progress.
@NiveusLepus Good verse. @danielbsmith
@poemblaze @danielbsmith Even after 20 years, I still have a lot of the bible memorized. I have to look up chapter and verse now, but that theological training really sticks. ^_^
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith I'm never good remembering where it's at. And it's sometimes a paraphrase.
@poemblaze @danielbsmith My junior year, the semester assignment for Koine Greek was to translate the Gospel of Mark.
It's the shortest of the 4, and the language is pretty streamlined compared to Luke or Matthew.
John is its own thing entirely. Which is why its not considered synoptic.
@NiveusLepus I have no knowledge of Koine Greek. Have to rely on concordances and such. 👍 @danielbsmith #religion
@poemblaze @danielbsmith Trust me, it's quite the rabbit hole. (No pun intended.)
It was a mighty struggle to get through, and I couldn't translate today, Ive lost to much to time.
@NiveusLepus @poemblaze I took Koine Greek in college but we did not have to translate that much. 😳
@danielbsmith @poemblaze You have a background in theology/Religious Studies as well?
@danielbsmith @poemblaze My advisor was considered one of the foremost experts of Koine in the world, he was selected to be apart of a 11 man project that created a concordance for the Vatican and he was one of the few protestants on the team.
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith Fascinating!
@NiveusLepus @poemblaze Yes. It started as a major but switched to a minor later.
I graduated with a B.S. degree with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Religious Studies
@danielbsmith @poemblaze Cool!
As a practicing heathen, this is the first serious bible discussion I've been involved in, in years!
Hello Christian buddies!
@NiveusLepus Hello practicing heathen friend. 🤣 I don't think I've said that before. @danielbsmith
@poemblaze @danielbsmith It's pretty groovy, isn't it? ^_^
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith Copacetic
@danielbsmith @NiveusLepus I was an English major and only know enough about any subject to be dangerous. I was awful at student teaching, but I looked 12 and weighed about 115 lbs. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
@poemblaze @danielbsmith Religious Studies/Theology. Minor in History, BA McMurry University, 2003.
It's so rare I get to flash my credentials :P
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith I was University of Illinois. Urbana-Champaign campus.
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith I graduated in 1988.
@poemblaze @danielbsmith That's cool! And you've followed your degree by becoming a poet, which is rad!
@NiveusLepus @danielbsmith And I've followed being a poet with not writing in eons. 🤣
@danielbsmith True. @NiveusLepus
@NiveusLepus I just forgot to label the post.
