My Boomer, RL elders will be proud of me. I know the Far Left weren't big fans of either Humphrey or "Tricky Dick." Because of the assassination Robert Kennedy was off the table. The outlier and closest to Trump today was Wallace and his main supporters were racist White Southerners. The reason Far Left people couldn't get behind Humphrey then was because he was too Liberal, they knew he would make promises and break them. 1/2

2/2 The reason many of us are uneasy about Harris now is because sometimes we're not sure where she stands. At times she sounds more like Biden, and at others she sounds more hip and Progressive. Yes, I know people identifying as Far Left are a fringe these days but if she wants to clinch the election on Tuesday, she might want to address our concerns. I'm afraid as in 2016, some won't bother voting because they feel a candidate representing their ideas is non-existent. Food for thought.

@lisaannlm What far too many don't realize is that once you're sworn in as President, you're taken to a room where the real powers behind the presidency tell you how the country will be run. The only thing the President and Congress have any power over is social issues. This is why people are angry at politicians who lie. They're not lying on the campaign. They have to lie once they're sworn in.

@LnzyHou Exactly. I wasn't thrilled to vote for Harris but after seeing 4 years of chaos brought on by Trump in 2016 my attitude was suck it up. The way I look at it, as a voter, if Kamala missteps or doesn't quite get her messaging right, it is my responsibility to give her some perspective in whatever way I can.

@lisaannlm

The last perfect human to walk the earth was hung on a cross.

We need to get over this obsession with perfect candidates. We all have flaws; we all profit from our mistakes.

It is a serious mistake to expect perfection in anyone. Especially political candidates.

@lisaannlm @LnzyHou For me voting Harris was easy. If the choice had been Trump or Cheney I'd vote Cheney despite disagreeing with her on almost everything. Except a shared love of democracy. The choice would still be easy.

@walterbays @lisaannlm

Harris was not my choice. Then she was.

She will be a formidable president regardless of gender.

@walterbays @LnzyHou I considered supporting Elizabeth Warren before she dropped out. Being a woman and a woman of color at that, shouldn't be a judgement on a person's ability to be President, however by the same token, we still need to hold all candidates to the same standards regardless. Look at Obama. Lots of people doubted him based on race and ethnicity. He proved them wrong. I wonder if in what's left of my lifetime we could possibly see a Gay, Lesbian, or Trans President.

@lisaannlm @walterbays

Pete Buttigieg will get an important role in Harris cabinet. He is, rightfully, on the rise to presidency.

@LnzyHou @lisaannlm I once speculated that we might one day have our first gay president. My gay friend corrected me: first openly gay president. You never know.

Buttigieg was my first choice to replace Biden, though I worried about his orientation, her gender, and her race. Both are very smart. He is an effective speaker who could run a great campaign, and I doubted her political acumen. Thank God I was wrong about that. Hope I was also wrong to worry about bigoted voters.

@walterbays @lisaannlm

Shared your same concerns. Middle America not ready for openly gay president. Or are they? His military career, critical mind & communication skills are exemplar.

I was wrong about US not ready for woman president, especially of color. Could be wrong about Buttigieg too.

MAGA notwithstanding, America seems on the precipice of real social advancement.

Dare we dream?

@LnzyHou @lisaannlm Yes, please do dream.

It's still amazing when I consider the vanishingly small number of human interactions in which it makes the slightest difference the sexual orientation of the person, or their race, gender, or religion.

@LnzyHou @walterbays @lisaannlm He is the most level-headed, informed, and quick on his feet of any potential candidates, including Harris.
My problem with him as it was with Harris is I think they showed true colors in the 2020 primary race. He was REALLY conservative in comparison to most (maybe less than Biden, certainly Bloomberg, and Tulsi was just a Russian plant.)
Maybe all moved left? With more data over time I know I did.

@LnzyHou @walterbays @lisaannlm For President though, I vote first for character and leadership and secondly on policy. I want my captain to be prepared and trusted to face the problems we don't know about right now. Because things will come up.

Look to Congress for policy changes on the problems we already know.

@LnzyHou @S_r_stone @walterbays @lisaannlm Yeah, when he was first running, I thought Buttigieg was just another privileged white Christian man who just happened to be gay. But I think his rhetoric changed pretty dramatically when he moved out of Indiana and became Secretary of Transportation. I like him much better now.

@S_r_stone @walterbays @lisaannlm

If I moved anymore left I’d slide off the planet. But my son says, doesn’t matter your political beliefs, if candidate does not have appeal to middle America.

We learned that in the Sanders’ campaign. Although I share in his policies, he is simply not electable.

Tim Walz was brilliant VP choice. He IS middle America. Harris from left coast is more aligned with hated intellectual elites.
But she has softened her delivery and has Tim at her side.

@LnzyHou @walterbays @lisaannlm The funniest bit I have seen since Walz was named was on The Daily Show by Josh Johnson (about 6:20 in) but the whole video is funny.

@LnzyHou @lisaannlm
yep. I am posting all comments today as a poster to share.. something else to consider..

@lisaannlm

You have a valid point and I can definitely see a repeat of what occurred with Hilary vs. Trump.

Hopefully, that will not be the case but when people feel that their wants and desires are not being met, they will remain home away from the voting both!

@lisaannlm It really come down to do you want someone who is a 34-time felon ( and has another 50+ on deck ), bankrupted 4 casinos, is on record for wanting to go after political rivals, and sparked an attempted coup, or do you want Harris?

This really isn't a difficult choice. At all.

@ProjectShadow I voted Harris against my misgivings because I don't want a repeat of 2016.

@lisaannlm

No food for thought needed on this platform since many are well informed and don't entertain right or left bias.

We know that 43 of 50 states have received record number of voter registrations this year.

48 states of 50 are recording higher or record breaking numbers of than anytime in history, including Nebraska & Iowa.

As of Oct 31st, nearly 68 Million people have voted early.

@Bliss What interests me are the faction of Republicans that say they are going against the party and voting for Harris.

@lisaannlm

The Republicans Voting Against Trump PAC (RVAT) has recived over 1B dollars in donations, $50M of which they are spending exclusively in digital ads across 5 states.

Having Barbara Bush (Jr) and Liz Cheney on the campaign trail is having a huge impact in Texas and Wisconsin. Plus most women over age 55 remember life before Roe v Wade and the high rates of maternal mortality due to pregnancy complications. GOP Women are voting for loved ones and not for a party or candidate.

@lisaannlm Democracy is a "we as a whole" effort and not a "me" one. Same complain about taxes...my taxes should not be used for this or that (fix roads, fire department...) It is about the betterment of society. You'll never have a perfect candidate...unless they say what you want to hear.
