My Boomer, RL elders will be proud of me. I know the Far Left weren't big fans of either Humphrey or "Tricky Dick." Because of the assassination Robert Kennedy was off the table. The outlier and closest to Trump today was Wallace and his main supporters were racist White Southerners. The reason Far Left people couldn't get behind Humphrey then was because he was too Liberal, they knew he would make promises and break them. 1/2

2/2 The reason many of us are uneasy about Harris now is because sometimes we're not sure where she stands. At times she sounds more like Biden, and at others she sounds more hip and Progressive. Yes, I know people identifying as Far Left are a fringe these days but if she wants to clinch the election on Tuesday, she might want to address our concerns. I'm afraid as in 2016, some won't bother voting because they feel a candidate representing their ideas is non-existent. Food for thought.

@LnzyHou Exactly. I wasn't thrilled to vote for Harris but after seeing 4 years of chaos brought on by Trump in 2016 my attitude was suck it up. The way I look at it, as a voter, if Kamala missteps or doesn't quite get her messaging right, it is my responsibility to give her some perspective in whatever way I can.

@lisaannlm @LnzyHou For me voting Harris was easy. If the choice had been Trump or Cheney I'd vote Cheney despite disagreeing with her on almost everything. Except a shared love of democracy. The choice would still be easy.

@walterbays @LnzyHou I considered supporting Elizabeth Warren before she dropped out. Being a woman and a woman of color at that, shouldn't be a judgement on a person's ability to be President, however by the same token, we still need to hold all candidates to the same standards regardless. Look at Obama. Lots of people doubted him based on race and ethnicity. He proved them wrong. I wonder if in what's left of my lifetime we could possibly see a Gay, Lesbian, or Trans President.

@lisaannlm @walterbays

Pete Buttigieg will get an important role in Harris cabinet. He is, rightfully, on the rise to presidency.

@LnzyHou @lisaannlm I once speculated that we might one day have our first gay president. My gay friend corrected me: first openly gay president. You never know.

Buttigieg was my first choice to replace Biden, though I worried about his orientation, her gender, and her race. Both are very smart. He is an effective speaker who could run a great campaign, and I doubted her political acumen. Thank God I was wrong about that. Hope I was also wrong to worry about bigoted voters.

@walterbays @lisaannlm

Shared your same concerns. Middle America not ready for openly gay president. Or are they? His military career, critical mind & communication skills are exemplar.

I was wrong about US not ready for woman president, especially of color. Could be wrong about Buttigieg too.

MAGA notwithstanding, America seems on the precipice of real social advancement.

Dare we dream?

@LnzyHou @lisaannlm Yes, please do dream.

It's still amazing when I consider the vanishingly small number of human interactions in which it makes the slightest difference the sexual orientation of the person, or their race, gender, or religion.
