While one little project of mine decides to be difficult, I started on the service of this Waltham movement I picked up on EBay.

You can’t really tell from the picture, but this thing is filthy. It seems that all the parts and jewels are good, though.

I’ve got it disassembled and ready for the cleaning.

The mainspring is the heart of your mechanical watch. This one is likely the original from 1909. Carbon steel, spiral wound.

I’ve ordered a new alloy model, with an S-curve that helps maintain the energy throughout the length of the wind.

Here’s the original.

I just received my cheap Casio analog/digital hybrid. I've worn hybrids for years, as a nod to past, present & future. This model is awesome. Comfortable buttons, lots of functions, I had it set up in a jiffy. I downloaded the pdf manual for it (those tiny books are so annoying).

Nice! I also have a Casio hybrid. It’s mainly my beater watch that I wear when I’m doing yard work or something.
