So I'm in the thick of working on my book Posse, which naturally means my brain is already ruminating on The Next Big Thing instead of focusing on the project at hand. I already know what The Next Big Thing will be-a book called Extinction Event. It will be structured like my books Day of the Destroyer and Arena, with multiple storylines overlapping. The tricky part is to figure out how many and whose stories I will tell. 1/2

I know for sure I will include Sentinel and La Capitana. I want to include a Mexican superhero (as yet undefined). Still trying to figure out a 4th and whether or not to include a 5th. Desert Eagle from Just Cause Dallas is a strong contender, but there's a whole team to draw from. And I always like introducing new characters.

@ianthealy
Ian, I am just getting to know you and your work. As a hard of hearing person, I'm wondering, have you ever included a Deaf superhero?

I love how you have representation in your books, of just about everyone as far as I can tell. That's just wonderful. πŸ’œ

Forgive me, just getting started!

@janallmac I have not introduced one yet, although I've considered it. The tricky part is effectively conveying the communication barrier. I will ruminate more on this. I can already see a way to get around it technologically, so naturally the first thing I have to do in a story is render that solution ineffective to create dramatic tension.

@janallmac Hmmm... Thinking about a character with a powerful sonic attack who permanently deafened himself the first time he used his power. This could be my as-yet-undefined Mexican hero (Extinction Event takes place in and around the Gulf of Mexico, near the Yucatan Peninsula).

@ianthealy
Oooh, neat! Tying it in with prehistorical events!

And I LOVE love love love love the Yucatan. I've visited a couple of times.

Don't know if you have or not. Their history is amazing, and they have magical, glorious limestone caves and caverns just weaving throughout their... underworld. With rivers in them.

It really is an underworld! But it's limestone and magic.

Deaf people are really good at feeling vibrations and reading body language.

@ianthealy
I feel like this would be a good excuse to plan a vacation to Cozumel. Tax deductible because it is work.

@janallmac I love to tie stuff to historical events, even when it's history in my own books. My current project Posse (book 25) calls back to a plot point I dropped all the way back in Deep Six (book 4).

@janallmac After a day spent noodling on it, I will be introducing the Mexican superhero Battle Cry thanks to your input. 😎

@ianthealy
You will be????

Really?? 😍

Thanks! I am humbled and honored.

Gosh, I love Mexico so much, and I cannot WAIT to read about Battle Cry. There is so much interesting in Mexico.

@janallmac Yep! I'm working on some character development right now. You'll have to be patient though. I have to finish Posse first.
