Re: Charlie's portrait.
WHAT were they thinking????
Is it just me who thinks it's an absolute mess?
@PowerpuffGeezer It's butt ugly!
@PowerpuffGeezer I mean, if it's Art, what is it supposed to convey? That he's covered in blood? That he's really pink? That the country's going up in flames because he is now King? I mean, what?
@PowerpuffGeezer "Passion". Oh help.. yeah, doesn't do that for me.
@stueytheround hehe each to their own! ๐ โค๏ธ
Iโm sorry but that portrait does make it look like King Charles is presiding over hell.
@evamarie Doesn't it, though? I mean, I know the country is in a huge mess, but that portrays him as the instigator of the fire. ๐
@homebird @evamarie
I don't think *any* country could be in that bad a shape, certainly not the U.K. currently! ๐ That painter was being a little bit overly dramatic. I wonder if they were going for undertones, as one does, and were planning to paint the top notes over the red, but then decided "Hm, I kind of like that." ๐ค That's what it looks like to me.
@janallmac @homebird @evamarie
Guessing, but I think the whole thing is meant to portray him as a "Climate Superhero".
eg. The world is burning but here comes our hero. Look! Even the butterflies love him.
@stueytheround @homebird @evamarie
Oh, that's nice. I hope it's got a grain of truth to it. May his efforts help, really, despite any critics.
There's a butterfly effect, too...
@stueytheround @homebird @evamarie
You know, I think I see the story now, maybe. (?)
The focus is on Charles' face, Charles the human.
And his uniform, symbolizing royalty itself -- his royalty fades into the background (which is a violent mess) but the butterfly is meant to symbolize Charles coming out of his cocoon, and it's his humanity that the painter wanted to focus on, his face and his humanity.
Maybe that's it? Charles the man vs. Charles the king?
@stueytheround @homebird @evamarie The face is beautifully done, IMO.
@janallmac Oh maybe! @homebird @evamarie
@janallmac @stueytheround @homebird @LnzyHou
Nice interpretation, janallmac.
The portrait still looks hellish to me. If the butterfly is meant to represent the Kingโs devotion to the environment as postulated by Stuey, I think it looks like the world is on fire due to climate change. ๐ฅ
This portrait is a veritable Rorschach test ๐
@stueytheround @janallmac @evamarie ok, I can see that, now you mention it. Not sure he is that hero, but I see what you're saying!
@homebird The face of King Charles is exemplary. I had a strong visceral reaction to the painting which I believe is what art is supposed to do.....
@ReneeVoiceBrand I agree that the artist's portrayal of the King's face is excellent work!
@homebird I kind of like it. Yeah I'm weird.
