I’m just curious. What is the most depressing book you’ve ever read? For me, it was A Fine Balance. When I thought things couldn’t get worse, they did. Not sorry I read it though. I still think about it from time to time.
This may not be a good time to ask this question but I’d appreciate any responses. Thanks. 🙂
It was an Oprah Book Club pick in 2001 I think. That’s what prompted me to read it.
Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe? Maybe Fahrenheit 451...?
Handmaid's Tale?
The White Mountains?
I've read so many books that it's hard to pick anymore.
@Heucuva8 💕 Love that you’re a reader. Not familiar with The White Mountains. Going to take a look.
Part of the Tripods series by John Christopher.
Part sci-fi, part parable.
I was probably 13 at the time.
Now if you ask me my favorite books growing up...
* Dune
*The Anarchist's Cookbook
* The Dark is Rising
* Civil Disobedience
* Needful Things
to mention a few.
@Heucuva8 I see you are a well rounded reader.
I try. It's hard as an old guy now to find time or energy to read. 😅
I honestly LOVED Dune because of the underlying message that Ambition corrupts, Cults of Personality/Celebrity are a bad thing, and that we need to preserve the Environment.
Between that and the cartoons/movies I saw growing up, it probably shaped my Politics and Morals today. 😀
I had to check which thread this was on. I *almost* believed I was tagged in a #Warhammer40K thread for a moment. 😅
