Morning Forest Walk About

Talking to neighbor teens,
starting college next fall.
"Will this be our last free summer?"
I understand this question.
The future, for them,
Is both bleak and unknown.
They weren't joking around.
Noticing what they might lose.
"Fuck, if I know." is my answer,
Not wanting to bum them out.
"Party anyway." I follow up.
"Turn the music up,
and have a slice of cold pizza."

that's a profoundly saddening state of affairs. youth is the time for optimism and enthusiasm as possibilities. i fear for them.

@holon42

The problem with well read, intelligent, kids.
They can see the signs.
They know the drill.
Their road will be harder than ours.

@LnzyHou @holon42

Actually, I think my neighbor teens do in fact. Know.
They are not so much fearful, as just confused a bit.

Right?! I have been striving to prepare 23 & 15 for a broader range of challenges than those we've already overcome. Key is to also infuse life lessons with humor, a sense of wonderment, gratitude, and compassion.

Hope fosters resilience and fortitude. 💖
