My fifth grader is learning about the:

• Claim
• Evidence
• Reasoning

Framework for making a convincing argument in essays, and I think it's a lesson that more people need in general.

A primer:

• Claim. Something you assert to be true.
• Evidence. Objective facts that establish the basis for the claim.
• Reasoning. How the evidence supports and affirms the claim.

Right now, we have some very loud voices stuck on claims, summarily ignoring evidence and reason.

If you really think about it, that right there is the crux of most problems.

Science is generally conducted in a similar way with Claim being replaced by Hypothesis, Evidence being replaced by Experimentation and Observation, and Reasoning largely the same just maybe being more rigorous and quantifiable.
