Is anyone else scared shitless that we might actually default? I mean this is completely and utterly insane! I've been looking at Biden and Yellin's options in a realistic light and it just doesn't look good. Honestly, I don't see a downside to just ignoring Congress while it plays out in the courts. Or, agree to GOP demands and then renege. I mean, what are they actually gonna do?
There is a poll out, I don't know who ran it. It seems off to me. But it asks:
Do you think that Biden should negotiate with the house Republicans over cutting spending on social programs?
Yes said 68% Republicans
Yes said 44% Democrats
You see what's wrong here.
Rule 1.You do not negotiate with terrorists.
Rule 2. Biden could end this tomorrow with the stroke of a pen, give a speech, and end all this “malarkey.”
@dauphin87 @corlin but see that's the problem. Invoking the 14A will initiate legal challenges and stays, etc. While one part of me would love to see SCOTUS try to rule against Biden in the midst of a gigantic financial meltdown, the other part of me says WTF am I thinking? Biden is not going to ignore the judiciary the way Trump might. He's by the book, even if it means we eventually default. But he should get on TV and social media to directly address the public and lambast Republicans.
@hallmarc @dauphin87
I heartily agree.
This a moment to draw a line in the sand. Make a speech. Fire up the young.
