A bird app that's fun and educational ! Merlin is an app created by Cornell U, free and no ads, which IDs birds by photo or by sound, live on your smartphone.

The 2nd screen shot is of Merlin's results from a live sound recording outside of my house, where I get to enjoy lots of songbirds.

Not sure if the app works outside of North America, but it may be worth a try.

@guinnessphil Yes! They just announced that their app is useful worldwide.

"The digital field guide and ID assistant can now help users identify birds in any country – a grand total of 10,315 species."

@guinnessphil

We use this app in Texas (we’re part of North America… today).

Results are very good. We have a biologist walk the land every year and it is on the nose with what they record.

@guinnessphil use daily.
Along the same lines for plants and some animals I like Seek.
What else is there?
