i routinely escort intruder felines from my garden, keeping a watchful eye from windows above.
the birds and squirrels give warning.
i caught one lurking in the bushes beside the feeders.
surprised by the long poking stick supplied by last year's Catalpa growth.
this year's prnings are even longer‼️😈🤨
here they are sans feline presence.
@holon42 You've got black squirrels!
@holon42 I didn't know that, thanks!
the auburn colour fashion is new this year.
i was 😳when i saw them, thought it was a permanent change.
weird. i wonder if it will continue to occur.
@holon42 I had heard the greys chase them off, and it seemed to be so here
hmmm. maybe it depends on location.
or maybe when greys are more numerous, seeing black squirrels as invading?
@holon42 Yes, I think that's it
evolution in action 🤔
@AskTheDevil Perhaps they can be made photosynthetic? 😉 @holon42
@gemswinc
they're generally more aggressive than their grey alternatives,so it's not just the colour gene that's changed expression.
and so of them are auburn 8n spring, which gradually changes as the coat sheds and regrows.
the actual colour is much deeper and luxurious.
