Now two neighbors employ terrorists, better known as men in masks with gas-powered blowers. The din! What arrogance to think this much noise and pollution are acceptable.
@gemswinc WE have seen a significant reduction in gas powered tools, since our maintenance crew transitioned to battery powered tools 8 years ago. The community has taken notice and homeowners began making the transition too. We are not 100% there, but noticeably close. The noise reduction is an immediate blessing. The toxic fumes, while less noticeable or immediate, are literally a breath of fresh air.
@jackdetate I am glad to hear that! I can put in ear plugs, wildlife can't, and we must all breathe the fouled air
@gemswinc Or HOA decided to make the investment in battery powered tools for the maintenance crew, as old tools were replaced. Though in sounded, at the time, like it would take forever, gas tools were phased out in less than 2 years. It also was noted that the HOA was the most expeditious and least politically charged way to make the change happen, as opposed to waiting for the legislature to pass regulations and rules that face political headwinds.

@jackdetate 8 years ago! Bravo!
@gemswinc I swear that a significant portion of the human population has some instinctual behavior that tells them everything is terrible unless there's as much noise as possible.
Did our ancestors evolve to drive off smilodons with diesel engines and leaf-blowers and pop music or something?
@AskTheDevil You could be on to something, noise in the wilderness, to keep us safe. Meanwhile, I long for quiet and the sounds of nature, barring roars or snarls from nearby predators. Where did I put my airhorn? π
@gemswinc gas leaf blowers actually enrage me for some reason. I've actually gotten up before dawn to track down the source of that ear pollution more than once in my life.!
@Tattoomonkey29 Understood!
@gemswinc Most don't know that the EPA not long ago was considering banning leaf blowers. You mention pollution guessing your referring to the gas engines. They have a much bigger effect on air quality than just from that. They spew huge amounts of particulate matter into the air some particles are small enough to remain in the air for quite some time. This causes huge reductions in air quality which is why the EPA was considering the ban. Even electric of battery powered leaf blowers are bad.
@Lucky188 Goody!
@jackdetate These days I only rake or sweep @Lucky188
@jackdetate Foggy and disoriented, that sums it up π Seriously, thank you Jack and back atcha' @Lucky188
@gemswinc You are a rare delight.
@jackdetate @gemswinc All that energy we expend at the gym only to use gas / elect energy in our yards. Not all progress is progress
@Lucky188 Exactly! @jackdetate
The "terrorists" have been in one yard all day, what can possibly be left to blow away? Biodiversity, pollution and common sense fail.
