The op-ed was never intended to spark or to take part in the racist lie of Birtherism

@ecksmc Oh no! The brown person must not be allowed to stand!
@ecksmc John Eastman is a felon.
Besides our literal constitution, etc, if the IRS says it, then you KNOW it’s solid 😂 @ecksmc
oh man, the ride it’s about to be… sigh.
@Armchaircouch yeah it a legal prospective from a constitutional view
Republicans always think the constitution can be manipulated in law terms to bend it to their will
Time and time again its been proven they do this Bush, Reagan etc.... They all had legal scholars bend the constitution via law to suit their agenda
@ecksmc: There were smatterings of that in 2019 from the alt-white.
@ecksmc Claiming something and being right about something are two different things. I have found with the GOP these two things are never compatible.
@ecksmc Quoting Eastman is a nice touch… 😄
@ecksmc: The GOP owns SCOTUS and a lot of federal judges. It makes sense that they'd make a run for the courts. I wager that several red state governors, AGs, and state and local Elections Commissioners are looking for legal grounds for keeping Harris off the November ballot.
And saying the Dems will just write her in isn't quite a flex. Write-ins don't historically do all that well, except for Strom Thurmond a while back.
We'll see, I s'pose.
@ecksmc *sigh* The Constitution states that the President AND the Vice President must be a "natural born citizens," so it's odd that Dr. John Eastman didn't have a problem 3.5 years ago when she was picked for VP.
But if we can't trust a guy who was convicted of conspiracy, fraud, and forgery, who has a suspended license to practice law, and is facing disbarment, who can we trust?
🙄
Editor's note, 8/14: This op-ed is being used by some as a tool to perpetuate racism and xenophobia. We apologize. The essay, by John Eastman, was intended to explore a minority legal argument about the definition of who is a "natural-born citizen" in the United States. But to many readers, the essay inevitably conveyed the ugly message that Senator Kamala Harris, a woman of color and the child of immigrants, was somehow not truly American.
