How to delete your Twitter account and protect your data

zdnet.com/article/how-to-delet

@PaganMother @ecksmc Me too ,but now I'm wondering if that is even safe!

@ecksmc Can we delete all the old data? I really want to stay till after the election on the off chance I might convince one person to not vote against their interests.

@TrueBloodNet i don't know if that is still possible cause of X api charging

three ik off

Redact is a downloadable app for macOS, Windows, and Linux that deletes posts from an impressively wide variety of services

TweetDelete, one of the best known, is a web tool that lets you both delete your Twitter history and set a timer for the deletion of future tweets. The free version only deletes those most recent 3,200 tweets

TweetDeleter will also delete your older tweets

@TrueBloodNet

Some are free, and some charge a subscription fee. None can immediately delete more than your most recent 3,200 tweets. (This is a function of Twitter’s API.)

There have been reports, including from Verge staffers, that “deleted” posts have mysteriously reappeared.

OH DEAR. THIS POST WAS SET TO SELF-DETONATE 💣 💥 🔥

@ecksmc

I predict Coso will hit a quarter million users by month's end, assuming they can handle the surge.

With the same assumption, Mastodon may hit 20 million at the same time.

Those flocking to any other contenders are fooling themselves concerning data protection issues.

@Rabon @ecksmc

I hope not. We still aren’t meeting our existing operating costs. Everyone who can needs to:

🌻 🌻 🌻

@Rabon @ecksmc Bouzy talks a big game in those respects, and I'm sure his product is a hell of a lot better than X, and I have nothing against the guy, but he sells a little too hard. Some notable things about that site's Privacy Policy but also a lot of loopholes in language.

@Ellico2020bis @Rabon

check the spoutible hashtag here on coso

the man's a con artist

@ecksmc @Rabon I don't care enough to go to those extremes, but all the yellow flags (which keep coming) are enough to make me avoid. I've got better things to do on coso, whether he's a douche, shady, or a full-on con, doesn't matter to me, I'm steering clear.

@ecksmc I may have to start a new X account just to train its AI to call Musk a petulant manchild.

@ecksmc

Seems like he’s making a Dr. Evil power play with AI

@peeppeepcircus there was a reason he signed that open letter wanting a halt on AI

So he could catch up

@ecksmc Do we know what this means for deleted accounts?

@Tattoomonkey29 in theory once you deactivate your account you have 30 days before it's actually deleted fully although the data remains for another 12mths on X servers before fully being wiped << in theory wither they do fully wipe your data is anyone's guess and I'd say that depends on what laws are in specific regions surrounding data

You should always download the Twitter archive first then deactivate account if you are fully leaving the site

@ecksmc I did that back in October so hopefully I'll be in the clear! Haven't regretted it for a minute!

Thanks, @ecksmc ! While I left on Nov 2022 & archived all back then, today I disconnected all 3rd party apps (lol Klout? Vine? - was on since ‘07) and Deactivated. Can’t move to Delete until 30 days so I guess I’m harvested anyway since I won’t make the full delete timeline by 9/29🤦‍♀️😢 Buh-bye Tw.

@ecksmc
Thank you for posting...now gonna jump a sinking ship....
