Oh, and here's a wonderful read from Substack this morning:

Adam Mastroianni (a master of playful science writing) reflects on how easy it is to claim the End of Science if one is simply fixating on the sort of scientific hype that has junked up individual practitioners and maybe even a few sub-disciplines right now.

There is more to our scientific drive than a few mad operators.

(Even if they *are* really, really mad right now!)

So Good....
Thanks for this !

"I can get on board with the idea that our scientific luminaries are a bunch of asses and buffoons, and I’m even open to the possibility that large swaths of supposed scientific activity have basically become interpretative dance."

@corlin

I admire how deftly he swings from precise technical analysis to playful observation, with his tone-shifts serving to gently remind the reader not to take everything we read *too* seriously, even if we are musing over a serious topic together. Wonderful craft lessons, as well as solid insights, in his prose.

@MLClark @corlin

it's metaphysics in physics' clothing.

took a long time for scientists to recognize it, because as a rule these days, scientists disparage philosophy even when falling into its abysses themselves. they have no philosophical education, which earlier scientists did.

now they study recent analytic philosophy and logic if anything, which is woefully inadequate training, useless, in recognizing projected fantasies.

i'm glad the truth finally surfaced.
