PSA - Building a COSO 'mood-o-meter' - basically a speedometer that will indicate the overall mood / sentiment of COSO at any given moment.
Might even, implement individual mood-o-meters for each user - and have COSO automatically cheer up people who seem down - also auto look out for bullies, or folks with possible temporary suicidal tendancies or mindsets.
We'll be the only social network with these particular safe-guards.

^^^ Here's how the backend for this idea currently looks, it's the polarity and subjectivity numbers we care about.
The polarity score is a float within the range [-1.0, 1.0].
The subjectivity is a float within the range [0.0, 1.0] where 0.0 is very objective and 1.0 is very subjective.
I'm building the math out to work it all out, average it all out, etc etc.

I am a little bit uncomfortable with this idea. But I don’t have enough information to form an opinion.
So I will wait and see.
But this might mean I lock my account to private only.
I dislike having my toots, measured by a mechanical opinion. No mater how fair, and well crafted it is.
@corlin @th3j35t3r Just goes to show us. Break things down in terms of math, and some people -- justifiably or not -- get nervous.
@th3j35t3r @arprot
Don’t mind me, that much, I am just an old fart, grumpy at the state of surveillance capitalism.
So I react.
I ain’t going anywhere else.
@mcfate @corlin @th3j35t3r Right! Just so! This and technology like it have been wreaking havoc on our lives from out of the shadows for too long! Now we can turn it to good use.
Once again, I haven't got any idea what you're referring to here.
How does sentiment analysis "wreak havoc" on anyone's "life" or anything else?
Help me out, I'm perplexed.
@mcfate Social engineering, silly.
@mcfate Gimme a break. Please. Stop. I'm not going to handwalk you through ethics in advertising.
Sorry, you want to make as though there's some obvious connection between sentiment analysis — an exercise in mechanical natural language processing — and "social engineering", much less "ethics in advertising", you're getting ZERO BREAKS.
Start making some sense. You're doing too much hand-waving, tap-dancing, and buzz-wording to try to pull the arrogant and condescending act on me, my sweet summer child.
Lay it out. Imagine I'm five, if it helps.
@mcfate Ok. Imagine you like a Happy Meal. If your parent provider, McDonalds, knows what's good for you . . .
Wait a minute, do you take it for granted that mega-corporations know you -- you, as a specific individual -- and that they customize their advertising specifically for you? I mean: Do you realize that this is a phenomena and that it takes place?
I am rolling my eyes back up in my head harder than Saint Sebastian pinned to a post by a gross of arrows now.
I believe, at this point, that of the two of us, I'm the one who knows what sentiment analysis is, and you're the one with the shovel that's too small and the inappropriately snotty attitude.
Hint: it's got nothing to do with targeted marketing. Or demographics.
@mcfate Ah, go polish your tentacles.
Like I said before, try growing up. Attempting to buffalo me with nonsense isn't working out for you.
@mcfate You look out for yourself. I like that. Keep it up! 💯
Nobody asked what you liked. And you still haven't managed to demonstrate that you know what you're attempting to convince me you're talking about.
Look: simple fix. Don't grease my skids with bullshit. That's what got you into this in the first place.
Screw this. Down the oubliette with you, sonny.
Life's too short.
This sounds, to me, kind of like saying that Bayes Theorem is corrosive to society or something.
@corlin @th3j35t3r @arprot
Google "sentiment analysis", it might make you feel better. It's not surveillance, it's the online equivalent of a "mood ring" and somewhat more accurate.
