My head, it spins.
Someone very close to me believes that climate change is fake news. She claims "it doesn't matter anyway, because God is in control of Earth" so all will be fine.
I point out that her Bible clearly states that God gave Man dominion over Earth. She has no response.
I ask her about increasingly severe weather across the globe. She wallows in conspiracy, stating that obviously "someone malicious" has figured out how to control the weather, and is creating havoc.
{sigh}
@LnzyHou Good advice. Hard to follow when it's someone so close to you.
(but I do thank you for that reminder). :-)
Have learned the hard way. I finally accept they must cling to their belief as hard as we cling to ours.
@LnzyHou @codeWhisperer One important distinction: We use facts! Like vaccines for polio, measles and more. They use a mystical book and call that absolute law.
You missed my point. They are just as convinced and immovable. Regardless of source.
@codeWhisperer I'm more partial to the "it's a natural cycle" AM radio message. OK, let's say that you're right. Asteroids are also a natural occurrence, yet NASA worked on a system to deflect them. Can you understand why climate needs the same attention Christians and GOP folks?
@MidnightRider Thanks for the feedback, although I'm unsure what you meant when you say "let's say that you're right".
Right about what?
@codeWhisperer I meant the GOP, lets say climate change is a natural cycle. That doesn't dismiss urgent action to handle it, that was my point about NASA defecting asteroids in practice runs.
@MidnightRider I agree that it may be part of a natural cycle. 🙂
My point to her is that it is real, regardless of who or what is causing it.
My comment about Man was a reaction to her comment that "God is in control", a separate topic that is equally infuriating to me. I have never been OK with dismissing facts by responding with a reassuring sentiment (as she is).
And my head-spin came from the fact that she is willing to believe in contrails and weather control over facts.
Ugh!
@codeWhisperer Don't ever forget people like them drank Kool-Aid and died because Reverand Jim Jones said to do it. See also that Heaven's Gate psycho.
@codeWhisperer When people get lost down the rabbit hole of conspiracy, it's nearly impossible to bring them back out.
I feel for you.
@codeWhisperer Egad
@gemswinc @codeWhisperer That’s all I got too. I used to get mad, then tried empathy for the brainwashed, now I have nothing for them and just hope they stay out of the way.
@bmacmixer I just hope there are enough of us to secure the win for Biden @codeWhisperer
@codeWhisperer
Some people are totally oblivious to logic, and incapable of ever admitting they're wrong...
@codeWhisperer
I like to remind my fellow Christians:
"Worship the Lord your God with all your heart, soul *mind* and strength"
Too many people decide to ignore the *mind* part!
@codeWhisperer Yeh, the whole “God’s will” thing gets old. An assistant to a contractor ignored my request to shut the door and then said it was God’s will when my dog ran out. I then said it was God’s will that I was firing them. (I eventually found my dog.) And is being unable to afford medicine God’s will? Or domestic abuse? God’s will is frequently just an excuse lazy people use to not make any effort to do anything.
Clarifying:
I have nothing against anyone who is religious, spiritual, etc. Indeed, I have my own version of 'spirituality' that may (or may not) align with yours, and for which I feel no obligation to defend or promote, or to use in an attempt to sway the opinions of others.
However, I have tremendous issues with those who choose not to think.
Don't tell me you believe that you were created by (a) God, but then choose to leave your brain in sleep mode.
