Came here to mention this. 3 out of 8 of my dogs needed long term GERD meds when they got older. Super helpful with the cough/gag. Got to the point where it was happening without eating.
OTC Zyrtec is used for dogs, BUT only the regular version. Not Zyrtec-D. We used generic (with the vet's blessing).
@chakaal Nope! There is no trigger for it. She'll be laying here, snoozing then starts coughing/honking. We are leaning towards a collapsed trachea, but they couldn't get her to cough WHILE doing the Xray, and that's the only way they can diagnose it, is to SEE it on the xray. So, if the antibiotics don't help, we gotta go back.
