From ... I'm seriously concerned about this. I suspect a quick test case will escalate this to . If the conservative majority allows him to deploy the US military into the streets, he'll have carte blanche to round up anyone he wants. (1/x)

History gives us several precedents, for example:

In 1932, Hoover sent in the army to round up veterans camped out in shanty towns around DC. Tanks armed with machine guns rolled through DC to roust the protestors. (2/x)

Most of us know that FDR ordered 112,000 Japanese-Americans rounded up during WW2 into internment camps. They had done nothing wrong other than they were Japanese. They lost their liberties and their properties. George Takei is a survivor and often speaks about it. (3/x)

"Operation Wetback" was Eisenhower's program to round up Hispanics and dump them across the Mexican border. Some of those detained died while in custody due to sunstroke or disease; how many is unknown. (4/x)

We all know that Hitler began with rounding up the Jews. Trump might begin with Hispanics, with Muslims, with Chinese -- all sorts of rumors are flying.

If SCOTUS lets him do it, what's to stop him from rounding up, e.g. people registered Democrat?

If SCOTUS lets him do it, I'm seriously considering leaving the US. That poses complications, since my wife will be quite happy about all this and won't leave. But I'm already researching nations that take US citizens. (5/5)

@WordsmithFL Before the election, the dude said he was going to do this, and had Goebbels Miller salivating in the background. He literally said he was going to round up people and put them in camps. And 70+ million still voted for him. We, as a country, did this to ourselves, because the black woman made millions feel icky or something. Disgusting.

@PoliticalEd I won't be the least bit surprised if he orders troops on the border to shoot anyone trying to cross, including children. That's where this is going.

@WordsmithFL Given that he can now face no repercussions for his actions, I would not be surprised at all. Goebbels Miller would endorse/push this policy, he's a nasty little ghoul.

@WordsmithFL

Authoritarians gain power by people allowing them to have power until they are powerless to stop them.

Who is going to allow that? that is all that matters in the next 4 years

@Kinnison "Who is going to allow that?"

The majority of the US electorate just did. was quite open about what he intends to do. The majority are perfectly okay with it.

@WordsmithFL

It is about Keys of power. The election only decides who is going to be elected. Other people get to decide how much power the President gets.

SCOTUS, Judges, Military leaders, congress, Inspector Generals, Governors, and even world leaders, etc.

Ceeding that power is not a given. Look at who gives him power, then we will know. It isn't just SCOTUS

@Kinnison

Two years and although he'll say otherwise, he will be a lame duck president.

The cases should be handed to SCOTUS ASAP.

Let them rule on if he should have a third term...

I dare them to try and give it to him...

(I mean if he ever does take the oath again and I'm not so sure he will. See my poll on the matter.)

@WordsmithFL

@TheAbbotTrithemius

Not to be cold about it, but I don't think he'll live until 2028. His sclerotic cholesterol-clogged arteries will take care of that.

@Kinnison

@WordsmithFL

My worry is that if Stinky becomes unalive that sets off a chain of events that can be even scarier.

JD Vance who is just Peter Thiel's puppet gets to select a dark horse VP that a GOP congress will fall over themselves to confirm, then just be one step away from the FedSoc having their hand picked candidate as President with out a single voter having a say in it.

@TheAbbotTrithemius

@Kinnison I really don't know what to expect with Vance. He seems entirely amoral. He's never been a governor or run anything where he had to stake his career on a political position.

I don't think he's inclined to have the US military in the streets arresting people, but I'm sure he has his own agenda.

@TheAbbotTrithemius

@WordsmithFL

There is a special level of hell for those who seek to destroy any group of people. In this case, ghost peppers will be the only cuisine in the dining room.

@WordsmithFL I have ZERO faith any of his government enablers will stop anything he wants to do.
Welcome to Germany circa 1939.

@WordsmithFL next step is every old Nazi movie dialogue.
Papers Please!!

@pkatlga23 Yep. That's occurred to me.

I live in a Trumpy county with a sheriff who's one of those "constitutional" sheriffs who thinks his office gives him dictatorial power. I can see him gladly going along with any order to round up the opposition.

Voter registration is public information, so it would be real easy to give him lists of Democrats. How you vote is supposed to be secret, but they'll cough it up for the enemies list.

@pkatlga23 This 2021 article is about our self-declared "constitutional sheriff" Wayne Ivey and his extreme political statements. He was just re-elected without opposition.

@WordsmithFL I am afraid that's the plan. I hope the US institutions stand firm, but in effect, it is the people who have to resist.

@ToruOkada Well, "the people" -- the majority, at least -- just chose to commit political suicide. They willingly gave up their liberties to a known menace.

I can certainly see ordering the military to open fire. He's tried before.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he puts the military on the border and orders them to shoot anyone trying to cross, including children.

@WordsmithFL Roughly a quarter of the US population and a third of the registered voters voted for The Disgraced Former President. And even among those who voted for him, many will not be comfortable that this happens in their name. The US has a window of opportunity to turn things around before the killing of your neighbor becomes normalized. I can certainly see The Disgraced Former President ordering the military to open fire. But I also can see the US citizens resist this order.

@ToruOkada @WordsmithFL

Thank you. And the best way to make that happen is for us to be an example.

Resist.

Don't let them get away with _anything_ without resisting.

@ToruOkada "But I also can see the US citizens resist this order."

They couldn't be bothered to vote, a very passive exercise, so I doubt they'll be motivated to engage in active resistance.
