@WhiteRose Murderer is a wide term. You can act in self-defense and be a murderer. That's not the same as the guy who shoots his family.
@Graci @WhiteRose Murder is when you're not supposed to do it. Murder is the crime of killing a person in an unecessary, inappropriate or unlawful manner.
Killing a person in self defense is not murder. Killing someone for taking your parking spot is murder.

From someone who has listened to a fair amount of #truecrime podcasts 😉 my take (although I have no idea actually) but.. one current school of thought is it's kind of both.
Serial killers' brain x-rays show abnormalities but seemingly it takes a triggering event to cause them to act. I've heard discussions about pedophiles having had a triggering event in adolescence. Although not everyone who has had a trigger event turns killer - thankfully.
