@TheAbbotTrithemius The sad thing is that when George Orwell wrote "1984" he probably did not intend that a political party in a major Western democracy would lift it lock stock and barrel and make it their field guide. Of course, he may have been cynical enough to expect it to eventually happen.
1984 was written with the repressive advanced modern techniques of Stalinism in mind. The thing he nailed though is uniformity of techniques used by corrupt murderous phony cult-of peronality "people's movements" (like Stalinism, Hitlerism..)
And then identifying them, naming those techniques (newspeak, doublethink, war is peace, freedom through slavery etc) & taking them to their logical endpoint in a fictionalized setting.
*1984* is like a vaccine against totalitarianism.
