My biggest regret is that I never finished college or attended a trade school because I don't have the earning potential to give my husband a rest that he absolutely deserves.
When people wonder why people quit to have a kid? That was me. We did the math. My working would cost more than I brought in adding daycare.
I cried for MONTHS because I had earned a paycheck since I was 16.
This country is a mess.
It's a mess.

@VenomousHeroine

I wanna be a barista again.
Even though I managed the cafe at Borders.
I just want to be an excellent fucking barista.

@Shelter
I drink my coffee black like a good little sociopath so idk what that would take. Are there classes or something?

@VenomousHeroine

I was so excellent at making coffee and remembering people that I would have your black coffee of your preference sitting on the counter as soon as you got to it.

@VenomousHeroine
Driving through Raleigh I hollered THAT'S TWO SHOTS OF ESPRESSO AND A SLICE OF LIME NO HOT WATER! and at a beer festival ran into a guy and said, "Hi! Caramel latte two pumps of caramel no froth!"
He laughed.

@Shelter @VenomousHeroine

I shall henceforth be known as soy Chai latte, four pumps, no water, extra hot! 😉

@CLManussier

You're already a side eye because chai already has milk and chai latte is just a chai.

😂

@Shelter @VenomousHeroine

I didn't name it, Starbucks did...i'm just aceding to the naming convention that pre-existed my patronage.

@Shelter That's so cool. I got to do my dream job for a while and it was nirvana. What would you need to do it?

@VenomousHeroine

Childcare.
I can't work shift work without it, and we can't afford it.

@Shelter No I totally get that. Here's hoping that changes for you.

@Shelter We did the same math. I had a college degree, but all the entry-level jobs wouldn't cover daycare. I stayed home, started writing again, now my earning comes from royalties on books and editing. My degree is in marine bio, but I never got to work in the field because the pay is too low to support a family.

@LianaBrooks
I'm a writer. I haven't written since I gave up.
I really wish I had gone to welding school.
It would be deeply satisfying, pay well, and I could have afforded care for my kids and been home, too.

@Shelter

It’s completely illogical and assinine how the US is.
I was talking with my therapist that one of the reasons, i.e. fears, is that when I get a job, (only looking part-time), I could lose Medicaid and lose my access to all my doctors, and her.

@see_the_sus
I have a friend in FL who nearly lost her therapist recently due to DickShit
Thankfully she didn't.
And she also has insurance.
Work based insurance is horrible

@Shelter

I worked at Lowe’s (call center) for 4 1/2 years while in Indianapolis and I was grateful for the insurance because my monthly costs weren’t bad BUT a lot of care I needed was denied, or the co-pay was too much for me to go as often as I needed and then there was the inability to take time off from work.
