Does anyone have experience with how easy or difficult it is to apply for residency in other countries (specific countries)?
I know it is fairly difficult to impossible for some places people like to fantasize about moving.
@RandallTT @S_r_stone thank you!
@RandallTT Thanks, it seems Canada is one of the hardest, nearly impossible without family already there.
@S_r_stone I don't really know if it's one of the hardest. I certainly have heard that there are stringent criteria and that having family here and skills/credentials that are in need can help a lot. Canada has certainly welcomed refugees, but I doubt if US citizens would be qualify (at this time).
@RandallTT I looked up on the Canadian immigration site. Express Entry requires a company to invite you. There are provisions for care givers, family connections, graduating certain Canadian schools, refugee status, starting a business with jobs. (Self employed doesn't count.)
There are no provisions for general integration. Even temporary to permanent is paused. The best offered is six month visa. Everything else has specific criteria for entry.
Just found out that Albania offers US citizens a 1yr visa. Per my Super, Its very mild and cheap. my initial research confirms this.
@S_r_stone You might find more answers if you join https://www.internations.org/
Also Facebook has a group - US Expat Tax Questions
I belong to both.
@Resister_Grandma Have you investigated for a while?
@S_r_stone I still belong to the 2 groups I mentioned above. The International org. organizes social activities, sometimes online. It's a great way to meet new expats and answer any questions they may have.
@S_r_stone I did after I moved to Norway with my Norwegian husband because my son wanted to join me. He was 19 or 20 at the time. He's been over 3 times for 2 months at a time to visit me. I also found him work on a sheep farm through WWOOF but he had found a job by then.
