I can pay for things at most stores with my watch. I can deposit checks using my phone. I can vote by dropping my flammable ballots into a box and hope that they are not destroyed in the process by terrorists.
We have the technology. We choose to keep voting archaic and prone to interference. We do this on purpose.

We vote on a device, print the results on a scan sheet. Then scan that paper, back to Electrons.
The idea that paper is more secure is flawed. Paper is tangible, but you still have to trust those records are secured and all are secured equally.
This is actually a good use case for block chain technology.
