"Power"? Is that what we're calling this?
To me, it looks like they're just tossing out banana peels for other people to slip on.
20 of the worst people in congress have through their efforts done what jan 6 couldn't
shut down congress
they are not accountable to their voters, because their voters will put up with them rather than vote dem
when politicians are no longer accountable and can do what they (or their puppet masters ) please, that is power
Yo, they haven't "shut down Congress", the Senate's working fine.
If that's what their voters want, they get what they deserve.
no legislation can be conducted in the house
the only work the senate can complete is judiciary and political appointments
with the upcoming committees packed by the taliban 20, even once the speaker issue is resolved, nothing will pass committee for the next 2 years
thats shutting down congress in my books
So WHAT? The status quo remains the status quo; everything's already funded till September.
None of these bozos is getting PAID, you realize.
As long as there's no Speaker, they can't pack any committees; there ARE no committees, and no Representatives, just a crowd of members-elect.
correct - ergo no business being conducted
and once a speaker set, still nothing being done is the RWNJ get their way
That's what happens when a party wins a majority, yes.
What on earth are you asking anyone to DO here?
Got it.
Here's a cause and an effect for you: that response, and my oubliette.
Bye!
@CdnChrisCo All of that is true... although there's been overall improvement on gerrymandering. Rs narrowly won the national House popular vote. In the past that would have given them a large majority.
Also, in '24 Rs will be defending 18 seats in Biden-won districts while Ds defend only 5 seats in Trump-won districts.
if the john lewis act was enacted, it would all be moot within 10 years
or if scotus was expanded to 13
both of which are pipe dreams in todays tribal environment
@CdnChrisCo For now, yes. But the midterms showed that the Rs are digging themselves into a pit with swing voters and young voters.
american voters have the memory cells of a may fly
rethuglikkkans have crashed the economy 3 times in the last 35 years
and they still vote them in because they're 'better on economic issues'
they've shut down the government 4 times since 1996 costing the tax payers 7 billion $
and they still vote them in
they've tried to dismantle medicare, SS and ACA
and they still vote for them again and again and again when they lie and say they won't
most voters are mental midgets
@CdnChrisCo Yes, I get that you demand fatalistic despair and deny that anything is possible but disaster.
Since that is both false and actively counterproductive, I couldn't be less interested and have now muted you. Enjoy your eternal doom without me.
@RationalLeft
the only reason dems lost the house was gerrymandering
8 red seats were created, 3 blue seats eliminated
5 were judged as being against the voters act but the states refused to change them
if the courts orders had been followed, the dems would still be in control
this is why the taliban 20 has power - their districts are so gerrymandered no dem could ever win
