There isn't anything special about trauma. Everyone has dealt with it in one way or another. Many of us let it rule our lives for longer than we would care to admit. Fewer of us found ways to lessen its power over us.

Two things are true about trauma:

1. It isn't a thing that you ever really get over.
2. It's ours, and ours alone. /x

The meaning of trauma changed in a big way for me when I had kids of my own.

I couldn't fathom doing to them what had been done to me. I made a conscious decision to cut people from my life and to do my best to never let my own trauma cause trauma in others.

That last is something that I don't always succeed at, but it makes me very aware of my own sensitivity. In protecting myself from my own trauma, I can absolutely awaken the trauma of others.

That absolutely feeds a cycle of evil. /x

I endured my trauma. Survived it is probably a better way to put it.

I will not use it to cause harm.

It has done more than enough of that already. /endrant
