Okay, today's HOT TOPIC...
Post your answer to this question...
What song remake can you think of that doesn't detract or ruin the original version?
I'll start...George Benson's remake of On Broadway which I think was originally done by the Drifters...
PARTY ON WAYNE!!
Screw those others, I wanted your opinion...
One man's ceiling opinion is another man's opinion floor.
@Madken65 Ok then. I think Johnny Cash's "Hurt" takes the NIN original in a totally different direction, adding the sound and viewpoint of someone at the end of their life to a painful song. More reflective.
@Madken65 Let's add these, while we're at it
Linda Rondstadt - You're No Good
CSNY - Woodstock
Talking Heads - Take Me To the River
The Highwomen - The Chain
Bettye LaVette - Love Reign
I would add The Cramps 'The Way I Walk'
@Madken65 Oh! I would add this little gem.
Sarah Blackwood (Walk off the Earth), Emily Bones, Jenni Dreager (Pleau)
Wrecking Ball

@Madken65 I'll stop going down this rabbit hole now, This is a wonderful casual cover of Pat Benatar
Larkin Poe - We Belong

@Madken65
Since it was already mentioned here earlier, I'm going to go with Judas Priest's cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Green Manalishi (with the two pronged crown).
@Madken65 Also, let's throw this one into the mix.
Soft Cell
Tainted Love

@stueytheround @Madken65 i wonder how many young people discovered Simon and Garfunkle because of this song
@Mauve_matelot @stueytheround @Madken65
This so much 💜 also their version of Zombie
@Madken65
I like the newer Boys of Summer with the angry guitar...
Urgh. Have to google...
The Ataris one.
@janallmac @Madken65 ataris is a good group! 👍
@Madken65 I think k. d. lang does a great cover of "Helpless".
i really love this cover of Into the Black (although i don't know if it is BETTER) by the Chromatics.
@Madken65 Hurt- Johnny Cash.
not sure I quite understand the question, but isn't the classic example of a cover which is generally considered superior in every way to the original...
RESPECT by Aretha Franklin (originally by Otis Redding)
@Madken65
I've always liked Disturbed's cover of Land of Confusion.
@TomeReader It's a great version. @Madken65
@Madken65 Really depends on what you think detract or ruin means. I think it's wholly subjective. I can think of covers I prefer to the original but other people would think ruin it.
