It's time for some cover art testing!
This is for ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A CRYPTID. Which cover makes you want to learn more about the book?
I was thinking she’d want a right arm, but that’s just me being pedantic.
@feloneouscat There's a limited number of good stock illustrations available and I write because I can't draw.
I can draw, but writing is always, “this sounds good” and a few hours later it’s, “urge, switch these two words” then a day later, “okay, cut this sentence and… screw it time to rewrite.”
So, I’m always embarrassed when folks compliment my writing. It’s like, “No, I’m really not very good at it!”
@feloneouscat My first drafts are messy, but I've been in and around publishing long enough that I know how to take an edit and my published work is usually very good. There's always room for improvement, but I like it well enough.
@LianaBrooks I like the mountains and background in the first one but the river in the second one, but I think I'd like both of them better with more blue in the sky. 👍
@nonayadambidnes The green cover is to match the books in the rest of the series. They all have odd background colors. The 2025 one will be yellow and the 2026 book will be orange and everyone can have a rainbow on their shelf.
@LianaBrooks oh ok that's a cool idea, I wondered if there was a reason!
I like the trees around the base of the brown mountains a lot, it feels like more "cryptid" territory with the snow etc. But after seeing the other covers, it seems overly busy.
And like someone else said, the green mountains makes the character stand out more.
So my choice would be #2 with the green mountains. 🙂
@LianaBrooks The character stands out more for me on the one with the green mountain. That gets my attention focused quickly.
