Woke us this morning to an epiphany: I need a new hobby.
Basically, several of my current hobbies just aren't as interesting/entertaining to me anymore (that was the actual epiphany).
Now I just have to figure out what the new hobby should be.
Also, I need coffee.
@slapout Been there, done that, have the jump wings to prove it. 😎
Lucky for me, when I went to try it, they had closed. A local crop-duster pilot talked me into just flying the thing.🤣
@GaryPoole
Good Morning 🌞
@GaryPoole - combine the 2: start roasting coffee?
@GaryPoole Good Tuesday Morning!🌻☕️
@GaryPoole Learn latte art. Problems solved.
Buy a van and travel around the country with a dog and some friends solving mysteries.
Does it involve copious amounts of weed also?
Because I could totally enjoy this hobby.
You ever wonder what was in those Scooby Snacks and why they were so popular?
I've been devouring scooby snacks since the 60s.
I did that for 8 months before Covid shut everything down. Greatest freedom I ever felt.
You came to mind along with Shaggy, Velma et al.
Something physical or something to keep your hands busy?
Physical - I can't help you.
Hands busy - yeah.
Counted cross stitch. It's ttansportable so you can take it along with you. Minimal tool investment. There are kits that come complete with Aida fabric, embroidery floss, needle, instructions. Or you could buy a pattern, then the fabric, floss, etc, separately.
It can be somewhat meditative.
Complete a project, frame it, and you have a gift for someone!
About 5x7.
Used to love counted cross stitch. My vision is not as tolerant as it used to be.
I’m baking gifts.
And working a new puzzle.
@LnzyHou @GaryPoole I haven't made a cross stitch piece in several years. I keep thinking I want to get back into it. I have a helluva stash still all boxed up from the previous move. But my eyes ...
😄🤓
Here's a favorite x-stitch.
About 23"x25"
@LnzyHou @GaryPoole This one is counted.
I made one like this for a friend because she said it reminded her of her pony Flame-n-Fury. Show pony, stallion, stud. Her best boy.
He has descendants still doing POA (Pony of the Americas) shows.
@GeezerWench @LnzyHou @GaryPoole Oh my, that is gorgeous!! Did you make your own designs? I did x-stitch years ago from kits like "Baby's First Christmas" etc.
Baking gifts works, too! Food makes wonderful gifts.
Speaking of ... now I gotta feed my Jessie girl 💜 do some chores.
@GaryPoole #hobbies A fishing tackle box is convenient to use to transport your current piece.
#Needlepoint is similar to #CountedCrossStitch.
#StainedGlass. Not so transportable, tools are expensive as well as materials, chemicals involved, you need a worktop area big enough for your project. Area to store materials (glass)
#LeatherCarving. Tools and materials are expensive. Somewhat transportable. There are kits to buy. Makes items more useful/practical than cross stitch or stained glass.
I made the cigarette case back in 1986.
My Mom made the clutch purse back in 1995.
@GaryPoole I have many because making and keeping my hands busy calms the mind. What do you LIKE? Since hobbies are subjective as to what you truly ENJOY, liking the process needs to be there or you will end up with a bunch of stuff and tools you don't need or want.
Maybe try searching for a good list of possibles and first rule out the ones that do not speak to you. Narrow it down from there with the ones that are left.
Just my 2¢
@GaryPoole you may find this amusing... I took my own advice and did a search, found a list of 100+ hobbies and wrote a list of what I enjoy. There are 27😂 quite overzealous of me, but hey they keep me out of trouble and I'm never bored. I think I'll post it on my fridge just to track what ones I do most consistently and for when I need a boost to change gears after I meet a roadblock. Thanks for the thought provoking post!
I have a bin with unfinished rug I’m hooking for my van (2 yrs), needlepoint bird pillow (10 yrs), 2000 piece puzzle (8 yrs), cross-stitch Christmas ornaments (6 yrs), and now I excitedly await shipment of 1000 piece Buddha puzzle from China because I need something zen to do.
I now understand why I find partially completed needle projects in thrift stores.
This one I’m gonna frame.
@LnzyHou @GaryPoole I understand, for selfcare I am methodically finishing each work in progress on things I enjoy and jettisoning all of the stuff I do not. Catharsis is a tool I need to rely heavily upon right now.
The Buddha will look fabulous! Nice choice😊
I’m excited. Already spoke to my framer at Michael’s. We have a shadow box plan.
@GaryPoole
🤔 I hear skydiving is fun.
