I was what is now known as a "floater" -- the ones that floated from group to group but never fit into just one.
For example, I played sports, was in the drama club, made nearly all A's, yet also was comfortable with the heavy metal kids and dressed like a long-haired '80s skatepunk.
Basically, I confused most everyone else in school. Which is how I liked it.
@GaryPoole I think that's an excellent description and was why I didn't answer the first post as I too didn't hang with just one group. I didn't play sports but I was friendly with almost all the team members...helped by the fact that I read the morning announcements over the PA system for two years and, of course, added great flourish to their accomplishments (with the occasional bad Howard Cosell impersonation).
@GaryPoole School principals never have a sense of humor. I think it's a job requirement.
