A conversation about children's stories over on the bird site made me try to think what my dad read to me and the first things that came to mind were Aesop's Fables and Uncle Remus / Br'er Rabbit. The others were referencing Where the Wild Things Are and Cat in the Hat and similar.
🤔
I am olding it seems, right before my very eyes.
@cassandra17lina
Were the Just So stories by Kipling?
I have a vague memory of them.
@cassandra17lina
Well of course they were. I went and looked it up. And Gutenberg has them available:

@FireMonkey @cassandra17lina Kipling's "Just So Stories" was the basis for the Disney film "The Jungle Book." They were a series of wildly improbable tales set in the jungles of tropical India, a British colony at the time.
My son loved Where the Wild Things Are
@LnzyHou
I loved it as an adult. I kept a copy of it in the bedside of the kid room in my vacation rental for guests kids.
Wonderful
@FireMonkey I don't remember my dad ever reading to me. Mom? Yes, many times. Dad? Nope, not that I can recall.
@POOetryma
My pop could tell a good joke too and could turn a dirty joke clean depending on the audience. Actually, I don't remember my mom reading me stories.🤔
@FireMonkey I hate responding. Just another episode of verbal carbon dating. 😂
@FireMonkey The “Just So” stories were my dad’s favorite. I am old, but not “geologic time” old.
