Handmaid's Tale is just plain regular Christianity for some folks, too. I know because I've met those folks, and they're all over social media, and in some cases running for office.

That's a pretty standard white male evangelical view of women. No, I'm not kidding. I have literally seen men divorce their wives and the church kick the wife out and welcome the fresh new mistress bride.
He missed the part about getting them fresh out of middle school when you are sure they are probably virgins because they married their daddies in a promise ring ceremony. 🤷
One of the big questions being asked on "women's forums" is whether or not a husband can see how a wife votes. And, in more disturbing cases, women who are concerned that their CHURCH might find out how they voted.

Be super cautious - treat it like she's escaping physical abuse. He will escalate.
Also, have them start keeping a journal - digital and short is fine. Time will make things get fuzzy, a journal will remind them of how they were treated and now they felt.
